Atlantic Senior Ladies Golf Association
ASLGA History
In 1933 when the Ladies Division of the Liverpool Golf Club was organized, probably no one dreamed the seed was sown for a future organization that would be enjoyed by women for many years to come.
When the Liverpool ladies hosted their 50th Anniversary Tournament in 1983, discussion arose regarding an annual tournament for senior ladies. As a result a Steering Committee was chosen at that time and that Committee suggested a 27 hole tournament to be held near the end of the golfing season, which would be played at or near a resort where all members could socialize. It was concluded that women of fifty years of age, or older, belonging to any Golf Club in the Province of Nova Scotia, should have an opportunity to join this significant golf and social event. Invitations were sent to all clubs. Responses came from all areas, more from some than others. It was decided at that time to have a limit of 80 members, this number was later revised to 90 and the scope broadened to Atlantic Canada.
The inaugural tournament was held at the Liverpool Golf Club in conjunction with White Point Beach Lodge. There were three divisions with nine holes played the first day and eighteen holes the following day. It was a ‘package deal’, 27 holes of golf, over night and breakfast at the Lodge, sandwich and drink at the club during play the second day.
A constitution was drawn up, which has been revised over the years.
Our annual tournament is held at various resorts and golf courses throughout the province.
